The Year Ahead

Today is the first day of 2017 and I feel a good time to reflect. This year has been a whirlwind with lots of great moments that I will look back on for the rest of my life, but also lots of dark moments that I hope to learn from and keep in my past. In this blog post I want to reflect on my favourite moments of 2016 and set my goals to achieve in 2017.

My favourite moments of 2016 have been;
- Graduating from university with a 2:1
- Seeing James Bay with my best friends
- Getting a full time job
- Seeing Busted with my best friends
- Moving into a flat on my own
- Seeing You Me At Six
- Going to Budapest
- Pushing myself career wise

Things I want to achieve in 2017 are;
Focus on self love
I'm not a very confident person and struggle to see the good in myself. This has always been a huge issue for me and something that holds me back. In 2017, I want to focus on myself and really learn to love who I am and enjoy my own company.

Travel more
Currently in 2017 I am going to Edinburgh for a weekend, and also going to Amsterdam for a long weekend over my birthday. I want to travel as much as my budget and annual leave will allow me. Whether that be going abroad or just going to different cities in the UK.

See more live music
I absolutely love gigs and seeing live music. There is something about it that makes me so happy and gives me goosebumps everytime. So far, I have two gigs lined up in 2017, You Me At Six and Blink 182. Both of which I am already super excited for because they are two of my favourite bands. I'm also praying that James Bay does another tour because I need to see him in the flesh again!

Volunteer at Cardiff Dogs Home
I am the craziest dog lady ever. I approach dogs in the street just to say hi and have probably seen every dog meme ever. Unfortunately, my current life situation doesn't allow me to get a doggy. If  I volunteer at Cardiff it means I get to help out dogs and also make myself a lot happier.

Read more
I am a book worm. I love getting lost in fiction and escaping into someone else's world. I've got a list of books I want to read and I definitely want to ensure I spend my time reading rather than scrolling this year. Scrolling through social media, despite sometimes inspiring me, it does make me spiral into a negative mindset. Books however, always make me feel enlightened and inspired.

I would love to know what your new years resolutions are and if you have any tips on how I can achieve mine.

  1. It is a new year and a fresh page with which you start with, you have your plans set and you can go so far if you put your mind to it, the only thing holding you back is you but as we have said to you in the past YOU can do it and you have got there in the end, either by the straight path or going around the houses but you got there in the end.
    We love you and believe in you as we know YOU can do it.
    You have done us proud in the past and shown that you can do anything you put your mind to.

    So 2017 can be your year as we believe in you, YOU just have to believe in YOURSELF.

    Love you lots

  2. Happy new year! I love how realistic and achievable your goals are! The second I read Blink 182 and YMAS I may have freaked out a lil bit.

    I think everyone agrees that self love is the hardest thing to do, and it does require a lot of effort and time, but I have a feeling you're going to accomplish this goal :) There are many little things you can do to boost your self confidence such as making some small changes to your appearance (as in clothes, makeup, hair etc) that'll boost your confidence enough for you to admit that you look kick ass, strong and confident.

    I can relate to the "not seeing the good in myself" part- it makes me feel uncomfortable and awkward to name positive characteristics about myself. Just remember that it isn't considered bragging- you're still considered humble! My advice is to start slowly and ask yourself "would I consider myself...." (ex: would I consider myself a good listener/loyal friend). Looking at your characteristics and actions from another person's point of view can really help you discover more about yourself and it makes it easier to nurture and grow self love.

    1. Thank you lovely!! They are both my favourite bands so I'm super super excited!!

      They are really lovely tips. I'm trying so hard to be lovely to myself and not say horrible harsh comments etc. But i'm really trying hard this time and it seems to be working a little bit.

      My boyfriend gave me a really good tip that is to stand in the mirror and say 5 things you're grateful for and 5 things you like about yourself. At the beginning it was really hard and i kept saying the same things. But it has helped me so much to realise different things that i like about myself!

  3. Such lovely goals - especially volunteering at the dogs home! That will be so much fun :) You've done such amazing things this year and you should be so so proud of yourself. If I'm ever in Cardiff then I'll be hitting you up to meet for a coffee btw ;) Happy New Year lovely lady - hope it's a fab one for you! xx
